It's difficult for a small à-la-carte restaurant like this to compete with the likes of G&V sushi in Aylmer(best sushi in the region), however the quality of the food and the service were both excellent. My partner has celiac disease, and cannot eat gluten so we really appreciate that the owner ordered his staff to clean their work surfaces when we advised him of her dietary requirements. The cost of certain items such as nigiri seemed prohibitively expensive compared to our expectations so we did not order any. The miso soup was excellent and our food tasted very fresh. We spent about 50 dollars before gratuities and we felt the amount of food was appropriate. A meal at G&V, which is AYCE is about 60 dollars before gratuities. We enjoyed our experience at Umi and we will consider eating there again in the future.
It was snowing so I came in for hot tea, tempura and seafood miso soup. Excellent soup, the tea was kept hot and full, and the tempura was tasty! Small restaurant but has a wide variety of sushi, sashimi, bento boxes, udon soup etc.
Pretty good sushi in a very quiet small restaurant. The dynamite Maki rolls were the best. Tempura is a bit greasy but still yummy. Worth a try.
The food was great! The first sushi place in Ottawa where I didn't feel sick after eating. The prices and the amount of food was perfect!
Came here for their lunch special, which was miso soup, California rolls, I think dynamite rolls, and salmon sushi. The quality was good, well prepared and fresh ingredients. Service was great as well. Prices are okay, felt like the lunch special I ordered needed something else to justify the price, as I did end up leaving hungry. One thing I did find confusing was they have several menus on the walls of the restaurant, but different menus in different places, making it tricky to know what all the specials are.
Sushi was good, but the service is lacking. Was served the wrong order. Then found a piece of shell in my roll (after crunching down on it). No apologies or token reduction in my bill. In these scenarios a mea culpa, however small, makes the difference between whether or not I will return.
Tempura is freshly made. A bit pricey but good quality food.
Enjoyed it here. Menu is large. Good lunch specials. Their sashimi is nice too. Ordered takoyaki to go. Ate in with the Wellington roll and short rib bento
Best sushi pizza I have ever had!
I love this place. Not cheap (good sushi rarely is) but I have never been disappointed by the food! Friendly staff, quality food, quick service, freshly made to order. Recommended!
Very, very tasty food! Some small errors (mostly on our part) that were easily fixed. Highly recommend this restaurant. Delicious.
Best Sushi in Ottawa. We like the Citrus roll, Rainbow roll, and Alaska maki.
I've been going to many sushi places on Ottawa to find my favourite spot. No need to look further, this is it. Very small restaurant with limited seating but it pays off with high quality dishes. Great lunch specials and rolls in general. I've taken a few friends who also have this as their go to sushi spot now. Located in a great area for shopping as well. Perfect lunch spot, or dinner.. Or anytime it's open.
This is our go to sushi 🍥 place in Wellington village. The portions and prices are totally reasonable and in keeping with what you'd expect in this area of the city. You can also grab a drink at Petite Bill's Bistro if you come early and there's a wait.
Absolutely loved this restaurant. It may be small but utterly charming and homey, the sushi was seriously the best we have ever had & we've eaten sushi all across Canada. It was beautifully presented and the waitress was wonderful and attentive. People who are complaining about the price are most likely comparing it to all you can eat places: no matter the quantity you cannot compare the quality. I will definitely come back and bring our friends!!!
Tried Sushi Umi as we have moved in down the street. The food was great and the portions were reasonable. I liked that you could place your order through their website. Only downfall is they do not do delivery.
The place is very small, be prepared to sit close to other clients. The sushi are very tasty and fresh but the portions are too small for the price. Ordered the family special for 3 people and left hungry.
Avoid all you can eat places. If you want good quality for a reasonable place here you won't be disappointed!
An underrated, hidden gem. Huge chunks of fish in their rolls (not like the ground up junk at other places )and large slices on their nigiri, all perfectly balanced with just the right amount of rice. Can't recommend enough. Super quick service for dine in and take out.
The best sushi in town. Love the citrus roll and sashimi.
This place is SO GREAT FOR CELIACS!!!! I have such a problem with gluten and they take such care of how they prepare things. I have never had a reaction after eating here and their food is delicious! Super fresh fish and great options. Wish I could have this for lunch every day!
I like the quality of their sushi and so yummy on their bento box too
Sushi were very good but we (2of us)had to wait 40 minutes for them. To long wait time just for 2 sushi servings.
It was really amazing. I went Japan many times, but here is much better than Japan. I’m 100% sure he is best sushi chef ever I had. I will come here when I have time. Thanks for the sushi chef
Perfect Service and delicious food.
Nice location, friendly staff and super delicious sushi! We will be back!!!
Best sushi quality in Ottawa! Location is a tad pricier but they source the highest quality fish in the city, 24 hours flash frozen and flown from overseas.
This is my favourite sushi restaurant. The food is consistently excellent and the service is truly amazing. I recommend it to all my friends and family. Do yourself a favour and try their sushi.
High quality sushi
Worst sushi I ever eaten! We ordered 2 combos and 2 giuza dumplings for 60$ so it's very overpriced. Sushi was very bad and not eatable , actually Feld like a scam.
I ordered the dynamite roll (8 pcs) for $9.50. On the menu is says that it comes with tempura bits with addition to shrimp tempura. There was no sign of tempura bits in the sushi roll. When I emailed and sent them a photo of it, they reply with "I see little tempura bits in your picture." There were only shrimp tempura and no tempura bits. I didn't even feel any crispiness because the sushi itself was so small in general. If I'm paying $9.50 for 8 pcs of sushi I want to at least see CLEARLY whatever is said to be in the sushi to be in the sushi. That is the least they can do. Maybe if I used a microscope I'll see some tempura bits that were probably just fallen in there by mistake. Will never order from here again. The sushi itself wasn't terrible, but not worth it for the price.
An amazing spot for those who love a talented and invested chef! Great night out with friends, call ahead now and book! Fairly priced and standout staff!
Favourite spot in town! Our go to for lunch combos or dinner, high quality sushi, and the staff are so friendly and always go the extra mile for us!
Perhaps the best sushi in Ottawa.. Certainly the friendliest local sushi place...
A nice cozy location. Comfortable good music and excellent food. Great to stay or take out. Friendly and helpful staff.
Delicious food and good service. Had the vegetarian family player and it was great. Thanks!
Delicious sushi, vegetarian option the place is cozy, not suitable for large groups
CHECK UR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE STORE. When you pay full price for the best take out Sushi with tip for the team who prepare it, ask for double wasabi and get home and there's no wasabi and are to sort it out. Truly disappointing experience. Would it be too embarrassing to insist that employees check the bag? It's not that we don't make mistakes. It's whether we make our customers pay for our mistakes. Good people but bad service. their problem dumped onto their customer so now you get to hear about it while I'm on my way to the grocery store to buy wasabi
Fantastic find. Don’t let the small restaurant fool you, Sushi Umi has big taste. Great service and great food. We ordered the party tray with some changes, and the service was very helpful and accommodating. The dishes were well presented, and it tasted fantastic. You’re paying for quality. We’ll be back.
Sushi Umi, was a great choice for sushi. The food was good, relatively quick, and the ambiance was kool. Overall, Sushi Umi is a great restaurant.
Sushi and salads from this place are really good and my personal experience was great when service provided (which is not always happen on time). Price is acceptable and when service provided it is also good. Location clean but some renovation will be better to do.
Reasonably priced for the amount of sushi you get. I'd give a 4.5 just because it's not the highest quality sushi I've eaten, but I like their selection and it's affordable. The best sushi places are the smaller ones.
Really great quality sushi and the service is always great as well. Almost every time I go the owner is in the store helping in both the kitchen and the front of house. He seems incredibly dedicated to making sure his restaurant is top notch and it really shows. Also once I left some headphones at the restaurant and didn't return for a few months. The second I walked back in the owner went and grabbed my headphones and returned them to me.
Quality sushi and reasonably priced. However, the restaurant is not licensed and its rather small. So you can hear every conversation happening in the place.
Charming sushi joint. Small and personal. The food is excellent. Service is good. One of my favourites for a quick bite.
Good service, delicious Vegan/Veg poke bowl, and decent variety of veggy sushi.
The servers greeting was the best part. They use fake crab ( made from any combination of white fish and soy ) in many of their rolls yet say all fresh ingredients.Their take out combinations are about half the size and several dollars more than popular downtown establishments
This small gem in Westboro serves authentic sashimi. The cuts are big, and are fresh. Price is very good too.
Great place for sushi and other dishes!
Super fresh and tasty sushi, gyoza, and spring rolls. Reasonably priced with attentive staff. If I was a local, I’d be a regular.
